An eTA is a travel authorization that is electronically linked to your passport.

Citizens from eligible countries can apply for an eTA online! Technology has made things so easy – simply apply through our online form and you’ll receive your results anywhere from within a few minutes to up to 3 business days. No long lines, no waiting around at the embassy, no papers to print.

If all your information is correctly submitted, the processing time for an eTA can be anywhere from a few minutes to up to 3 business days. However, sometimes the Canadian government can request additional information, which can delay processing significantly and may affect your travel dates.

This is why we highly recommend applying for your eTA well in advance before your flight to Canada.

Only US Citizens and travellers with a valid Canadian visa are exempt from applying for an eTA.

If you are a US citizen and you are driving into Canada from the US states, then no, you do not need an eTA.

Visa-exempt foreign nationals do not need an eTA when arriving by land (via car, bus and train) or sea (cruise ship or boat).

You must:

• Be outside of Canada when you submit your application and when it is granted
• Not have any criminal convictions
• Meet the basic health requirements
• Have a valid email address
• Have a valid credit or debit card
• Be a citizen and hold a valid passport from any of the following eTA eligible countries:

No, as your eTA is electronically linked to your passport. However, it is recommended that you print the confirmation receipt for your own records and for peace of mind.

Yes. Even if you are only passing through the airport, you will need either an eTA or a visitor or transit visa.

However, there are some transit visa programs available to some nationalities which enable you to transit through Canada without an eTA. It is recommended you get in touch with a migration consultant to find the right solution for your situation.
